Jimmie Richardson Obituary

In loving memory of Jimmie Lou Richardson who peacefully passed on January 9, 2023.  Jimmie Lou was the devoted, loving wife of Hazen L. Richardson (Rich), and a dedicated loving mother and grandmother.

Jimmie Lou was born on May 7, 1933, to James B and Alice M Howe in Denver, Colorado. She and her younger brother Robert Howe enjoyed the mountains skiing, sledding on the toboggan and fly fishing with their dad.  Jimmie Lou graduated from Denver University in 1954 and was an active member of Delta Gamma; mom treasured relationships even in her younger years.

In 1954 she met Rich while working at Weiss’ Drugstore in Denver.  Jimmie Lou and Rich were married on September 22nd, 1956.  They raised two children, a son Todd Hazen Richardson and a daughter Tricia Ann Dalkin.  Jimmie Lou and Rich spent their together time travelling, hosting small parties, playing bridge, playing golf and enjoying family life until dad’s death in 1992.

Jimmie Lou moved to Charlottesville in 1998. Most of us know mom liked to keep moving.  She enjoyed her friendships, playing bridge, sightseeing, going to the symphony or having dinner with friends at the Colonnades.  She especially liked to see unique places like the Panama Canal, Croatia, Costa Rica and the Norwegian Fiords.

Above all, our mom was “mom”. Her love, dedication and concern were for her family.  Her family was her priority.  She was “mom and dad” when dad was away on business.  She was there for school, sports and discipline.  Naturally, mom loved being a grandmother and was good at it. She was able to be there for many life events, both big and small.  Most recently she stepped up to be a great grandmother twice.

For those who knew Jimmie Lou, you understand her unselfish love and dedication to family and friends, to what is right and wrong, to what is fair and unfair- you know she was quietly blessed with inherent inner strength and discipline.  Mom was quietly a strong woman.

Jimmie Lou was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Robert Howe.  She is survived by her two children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Jimmie Lou will be buried in Ottawa, Kansas at Highland Cemetery with Rich on January 17, 2023.  A celebration of her life will be held in Charlottesville at the Colonnades (2600 Barracks Road) on January 21, 2023 at 1 pm.
