Joan Sexton

 Joan Haskins Sexton, 91, of Baldwin City, KS passed away Tuesday January 3, 2023 at her home.

She was born October 17, 1931 in New Rochelle, NY, the daughter of Finis Hunt Haskins and Mary Elizabeth (Haskins) Thompson.  In her youth Joan moved with her family to Ohio and graduated High School from Terrace Park HS, Terrace Park, OH.  She then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH, with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Joan started her working career in ticket sales for American Airlines.  She took years off from working to raise her family and then later became a receptionist for twenty-five years at a local doctor’s office.

Joan enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, and her daily crossword puzzles.  She always loved going for a walk and in her later years a drive to get out and enjoy nature.  She was always excited when she was able to be part of a church Bible study and truly loved her moments that she spent being around family and friends over the years.  She loved cats, her current Miss Kitty will miss her dearly.

On March 20, 1957 Joan was united in marriage to Peter Minton Sexton at Big Bone Lick, KY.  They shared sixty-one years of marriage before the death of Peter in 2018.

Joan is also preceded in death by her parents Finis Hunt Haskins and Mary Elizabeth (Haskins) Thompson; and a brother, Bert Lacy Haskins.

She is survived by three children, Jennifer Brooke Sexton and her partner, Becky Beal, LaHonda, CA; Peter Minton Sexton, Jr, Loveland, OH, Elizabeth Dean Walter and her husband, Pat, Baldwin City, KS; four grandchildren, Ashley Brooke Floersch, Jessica Marie Walter, Sara Grace Sexton, Jack Hardigg Sexton; and one great grandson, Mason Walter Floersch

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2023, at New Hope fellowship Church, 1449 Kasold Dr., Lawrence, KS.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS.
