Jose “Joe” Sierra, 73, of Lawrence, Kansas died Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.
He was born September 3, 1952 in Pueblo, Colorado the son of Joe Sierra and Sophie Herrera. He graduated from Pueblo High School with the class of 1972.
On August 30, 1975, Joe was united in marriage to Theresa Ortega in Pueblo, Colorado.
Joe worked as an equipment handler on the kill floor of National Beef Packing from 1977 until 2020. He was a member of the UFCW Union Local Chapter #2 and the South Church of God in Liberal, Kansas.
Joe enjoyed gardening and landscaping his yard. He also enjoyed working on cars and owned an extensive collection of tools. Joe was a foodie and liked to watch T.V. He was a family man, and loved spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. He also had a plethora of friends because he never knew a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Sierra and Sophie Herrera; a grandson, Isaiah Jordan Sierra; and eight siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Sierra; daughter, Lydia Sierra of Lawrence, KS; son, Jose Carlos Sierra of Dodge City, KS; eight grandchildren: Joel, Laticia, Antonio III, Mary Jo, Aiden, Noah, Oriana, Phoenix; and great-grandchild: Azrael Armani Joseph Sierra.
