Joyce Arlene Aldridge, 80, of Pomona, KS died Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Stormont-Vail Health Center, Topeka, KS. Joyce was born February 8, 1944 in Newton, KS, the daughter of Irvin Hawkey and Vera (Johnson) Hawkey. She attended grade school at the Appanoose grade school and was a member of the graduating class of 1962, the last graduating class of Appanoose High School.
After Joyce graduated from Beauty School she was a Beautician for several years before eventually working for Hallmark Cards in the hand working department. She was also a member of the Franklin County Cancer Foundation and was a member of the local quilters group in Osage City.
She loved to crochet and quilt. She was also famous for her cooking in the family, especially her fried chicken. She enjoyed fishing and loved caring for her goats. She was a stickler for being kind to animals and did not tolerate people mistreating their animals and was quick to call you out if she saw you do so. She was a home body and was willing to go anywhere in the country you would take her as long as she was home by dark. She did have one big trip she enjoyed and that was a trip to Alaska. She was always at her grandkids events and recently at her great grandkids. She was always there to cheer them on and encourage them.
On November 21, 1964, Joyce was united in marriage to Albert Aldridge in Ottawa, Ks. They celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Albert Aldridge, Pomona, Ks; daughter, Sheila Anderson and her husband, Bobby, Pomona, KS; sister Phyllis Johnson and her husband, Winston, Lebo, KS; three grandchildren, Tyrel Anderson and his partner, Keith Wardlaw, Kansas City, MO, Danielle Hubin and her husband, Brad, Pomona, KS, Trevor Anderson and his wife, Stephanie, Lyndon, KS and five great grandchildren, Wyatt, Lexus, Kase, Grayson, and Grady.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Irvin Hawkey, Jr. (Junior).
Graveside memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Union Cemetery, Rural Douglas County, KS.
