Kathy M. (Wiswell) McCurdy

Kathy M. McCurdy, 88, of Ottawa, KS passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab Center in Baldwin City, KS.  She was born May 9, 1936 in Ottawa, Kansas the daughter of Arthur F. Wiswell and Cecil (Deshazer) Wiswell.  She grew up and attended schools in Ottawa, Kansas.

On November 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Loren Eugene McCurdy at Harrisonville, Missouri.  They shared more than 41 years of marriage before Loren’s passing on April 19, 1993.  They were blessed with five children. Ted, Trela, Randy, and twins Janet and Jeff.  

Kathy was a homemaker.  Her family meant everything to her.  She also enjoyed helping with the family business, McCurdy Auto Sales and Service at 17th and Main Street in Ottawa, Kansas.  She enjoyed visiting with customers and going to Lee’s Summit, Missouri with Loren and Jeff purchasing vehicles for their business. You never saw Kathy without Loren by her side and after Loren’s passing, her son Jeff was always by her side.  She loved maintaining and caring for her property on Lincoln Street and will be remembered for her cooking and sewing skills.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Cecil Wiswell, husband, Loren McCurdy, sons, Ted McCurdy and Jeff McCurdy, grandson, Chad C. McCurdy, brothers, Sammy R. Wiswell, Arthur “Curly” Wiswell and Robert L. “Bob” Wiswell, sisters, Pearl Kelly, Rosa Lee Carter, Louise McClintic, Darlene Koehler and Connie Hutton.   

She leaves behind daughter, Trela Sheffield and husband Gary, son, Randy McCurdy and wife Gwynn, and daughter, Janet Lysaught and husband Mark all of Ottawa, KS, sister, Linda June Bruner, brother, Paul Dean Wiswell, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.  

To Celebrate Kathy’s life, a Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.  The family will receive friends before the service at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Inurnment will follow at the Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.   Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the Donor’s choice and sent in c/o the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
