Laurene Marie (Smith) Young

Laurene Marie (Smith) Young, 86, of Baldwin City, Kansas died Friday, January 24, 2025 at her home.

She was born June 18, 1938 in Oskaloosa, Kansas the daughter of Ross and Helen (Brecheisen) Smith.  She graduated from Eudora High School with the class of 1957. 

On August 7, 1970, Laurene was united in marriage to Darrel Young in Eudora, Kansas.  They had a loving marriage, and were always together during the 54 years they shared with each other. 

Laurene sold Avon, along with working at the K-Mart Distribution Center in Lawrence.  She provided cleaning services for the K.U. Union and worked as an office manager for Forbes Field. 

Laurene loved music, and was a gifted piano player and singer. She also enjoyed crochet and reading. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Ross Oliver Smith, and two sisters, Shirley Broahard and Laurece Thompson.

She is survived by her husband, Darrel Young of the home; a son, Jeremiah Young of Baldwin City, KS; a daughter, Deborah Smethers of Garnett, KS; two step-daughters, Carrie Hill of Lawrence, KS and Candice Stevens of Anchorage, AK; two step-sons, Chris Young of Baldwin City, KS and Kevin Young of Elko, NV; two sisters, Dorothy Grant of Eudora, KS and Carol Roper of Eudora, KS; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Worden Cornerstone Church, 294 E 900 Rd, Baldwin City, KS 66006.  Memorial contributions may be made to Worden Cornerstone Church or Visiting Nurses Association and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
