Lavina J (Oakes) Daniel, 86, Ottawa, KS, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020, at Wellsville Retirement Community, Wellsville, KS. Lavina was born December 28, 1933 in Ottawa, KS the daughter John Henry Oakes and Vilena Mae (Gates) Oakes. Lavina lived all of her life in the Ottawa community graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1951. She worked H. D. Lee Jeans for many years as a seamstress. Lavina was a very active member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, KS. She held many different offices and was always active in the churches women's guild. Lavina was a happy and boisterous part of the church. She spent many hours volunteering for anything that was needed and always had a huge smile on her face. In her free time she loved to quilt, crochet, or knit. She was always happy to spend time with her family and loved them all dearly. On July 31, 1953 Lavina was united in marriage to Glenn Daniel in Ottawa, KS. They shared sixty-six years of loving marriage. Lavina is survived by her husband, Glenn Daniel, of the home; children, Debra Strawder and her husband, Norman, Ottawa, KS, Gary Daniel and his wife, Charlotte, Ottawa, KS, Linda Meier and her husband, Rick, Ottawa, KS, one brother, Joe Oakes, Ottawa, KS; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one foster grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Glen Oakes, Roger Oakes, and Wilma Brown. A public Celebration of Lavina's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2020 at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.
