Leroy Daniel Hildebrandt, 94, of Ottawa, KS died Sunday, May 31, 2026 in Richmond, Kansas.
He was born December 5, 1931 in rural Osage County, Kansas the son of Ott Hildebrandt and Minnie (Neihoff) Hildebrandt. He moved with his family in 1940 to a farm west of Ottawa and helped his father and brother around the farm. He began foundation work and building during this time.
On May 25, 1954 Leroy was united in marriage to Maxine Nilges. The couple shared over 53 years of loving marriage before Maxine passed away on January 22, 2008.
Leroy was a proud member of the United States Army and his first day was June 3, 1954. He completed his basic training at Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was then stationed at Fairbanks, Alaska thru June 3, 1956.
He then returned to Ottawa, KS where he built homes and began his own construction company, Hildebrandt Construction. Leroy owned and operated Hildebrandt Construction until 1986. In March 1988, he and his two sons started Heritage Motors where he worked as a car salesman until he retired in 2019.
Leroy attended the Faith Lutheran Church and took his faith seriously.
He was a man of many hobbies, including drinking coffee, hunting, camping, cutting wood, and gardening. Leroy also enjoyed putting miles on his car and going to Wendy’s.
Most of all, Leroy was a social man. He was friendly to everyone and loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine (Nilges) Hildebrandt; one sister, Marie Draves; his parents, Ott Hildebrandt and Minnie (Neihoff) Hildebrandt; one brother, Arlie Hildebrandt; one grandson, Trey Michael Frye; and one granddaughter, Dedra Marie Sayler.
Leroy is survived by two sons, Curtis Hildebrandt of Ottawa, KS and Leroy J. Hildebrandt and wife Brenda of Ottawa, KS; two daughters, Vickie Hildebrandt of Ottawa, KS and Cynthia Sayler and husband Jerry of Princeton, KS; one brother, Norman Hildebrandt of Ottawa, KS; nine grandchildren, Kathy, Margaret, Parker, Shawn, Rosanna, Julie, Cassie, Shannon, and Kaitlin; 12 step grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren, and 11 step great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Monday June 8, 2026 at Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, KS. To celebrate Leroy’s life, a visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home in Ottawa, KS. Leroy will be interred at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, KS.
