Lois E. Hobbs, 77, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025 at her home. She was born April 11, 1947 in Ottawa, KS the daughter of Jerry Hobbs and Rose Marie (Affolter) Hobbs. She graduated with the Class of 1965 from Princeton High School, Princeton, KS. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Medical Technology from the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, KS in 1968 and a Master’s Degree in Pathology from the University of Missouri in 1994.
Lois married Gerald D. Shepherd on October 12, 1969. They later divorced.
Lois was a Medical Technologist who worked the past fifty years at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, KS; Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, KS; Employees Benefit Association Clinic in Topeka, KS; Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS; University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia, MO; St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS and Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, KS.
She was a member of the Princeton United Methodist Church, Princeton, KS. She was a former member of the Greenwood Baptist Church, Pomona, KS; Bethel Baptist Church in Columbia, MO. Lois sang in the church choirs, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She volunteered as a 4-H leader, Integrated Employment Enterprises, Columbia Food Bank, COF, ECKAN, and traveled on several mission trips to La Ramona, Dominican Republic and Cochabamba, Bolivia. She enjoyed playing many musical instruments; spending time with family and friends; and working in her gardens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Rose Marie Hobbs; and a brother, Don Hobbs.
Surviving family includes two daughters, Janet Matthias and husband, Tim of Ottawa, KS and Julie Spielman and husband, Jason of Pomona, KS; a son, John Shepherd and wife, Kelly of Pomona, KS; a brother, Roy Hobbs and wife, Karen of Ft. Smith, AR; and six grandchildren, Eli and Emily Matthias, Jagger Spielman, and Sterling, Katelynn and Ross Shepherd.
To Celebrate Lois’s life, a memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.
