Manford Clayton Carr Sr., 87, of Greeley, KS died Sunday, September 24, 2023 at his home.
He was born June 14, 1936 on his family’s home in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Henry Truman Carr and Geneva (Carpenter) Carr. He graduated from Maryville High School with the class of 1954.
On May 9, 1988, Manford was united in marriage to Vicky Clark in Ottawa, KS. They shared 28 years of marriage until her passing on January 1, 2017. In 2018, Manford was united in marriage to Susie Carr at Osawatomie First Christian Church in Osawatomie, Kansas, with whom he spent the rest of his life.
After moving away from the family farm, Manford resided in Ottawa, KS. He then moved to Drexel, MO before finally settling in Greeley, KS until his passing. He worked in construction as a general contractor working on mobile home installation, including 15 years at Top Notch in Osawatomie, KS. He was also the Winchester, KS sheriff for a time.
Manford was a jack of all trades, and was able to fix or accomplish anything he set his mind to. He had a tendency to stay busy, and working was his hobby. He and Susie loved going to the lake with their “kids”, Hugger, LeRoy, and Sissy Girl after getting them their pup cups and a strawberry cheesecake shake, to watch the geese to relax. He loved his animals and enjoyed spoiling them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Geneva Carr; his late wife, Vicky Carr; a son, Charles Clayton; a daughter, Geneva Lynn Carol; 2 sisters, Marjorie Henderson and Roma Roming; and 3 brothers, Henry Carr, Cecil Carr, and Wayne Carr.
He is survived by his wife, Susie Carr of the home; three sons, Wayne Carr Sr. and his wife, Esther, of Overland Park, KS, John Carr and his wife, Arlene, of Olathe, KS, and Manford Clayton Carr Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, of LaHarpe, KS; two stepchildren, Derek Grogan and his wife, Amanda and Samantha Davis and her husband, Jeremy; three sisters, Twila Stone of Colony, TX, Wilma Grant of Higginsville, MO, and Barbara Cochran of Lincoln, MO; two brothers, Richard “Rick” Carr of Maryville, MO, and Willliam “Bill” Carr of Howett, TX; twelve grandchildren, and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, KS.
