Marilyn Kay Howard, 71, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away Friday, March 13, 2026 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kansas. She was born April 12, 1954 at Lawrence, Kansas the daughter of Frances (Miller) Wales and Clarence Wales. Marilyn graduated from Lawrence High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Crime and Delinquency from the University of Kansas.
She was united in marriage to Alonzo Howard on October 24th, 1981, in Lawrence, Kansas. They shared over twenty-nine years of marriage before Alonzo’s passing on December 15, 2010.
Marilyn worked at several restaurants in Lawrence, Kansas. She later worked as a Night Auditor and retired from the Virginia Inn Motel in Lawrence, Kansas.
She attended services at Rev City Church in Lawrence, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Wales; husband, Alonzo Howard; a son, Patrick Roberts; a brother, Michael Wales; a sister, Marla Wales; and a granddaughter, Miranda Roberts.
Marilyn is survived by her mother, Frances Wales of Lawrence, KS; two daughters, Lona Roberts of Lawrence, KS and Heidi Ortega and husband, Daniel of Topeka, KS; a son, Wayne Roberts of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Marsha Abbott and husband, Bob of McLouth, KS and Brenda Wickman of Yukon OK.; four brothers, Randy Wales and wife, Leanea of McLouth, KS, Merle Wales of Lawrence KS, Martin Wales of Lawrence, KS and Marvin Wales of Lawrence, KS; seven grandchildren, Michael, Markus, Hunter, Keyrra, Xavier, Sophie and Shelby.
Cremation is planned. A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at the Rev City Church, 700 Wakarusa Drive, Lawrence, KS 66049. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marilyn Howard Memorial Fund and sent in c/o the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
