Marjean Jo Parker

Marjean Jo Parker, age 90, of Carbondale, KS, passed away on Thursday April 14, 2022 at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, KS. She was born on November 2, 1931 in Carbondale, KS the daughter of William Waetzig and Wilda (Cain) Waetzig. Marjean was a lifelong Carbondale resident graduating from Carbondale High School with the Class of 1949

On August 13, 1950 Marjean was united in marriage to Robert Parker in Topeka, KS.  They shared seventy-one years of loving marriage.

Marjean was a lifelong homemaker, but she held several side jobs throughout her life.  She babysat for many kids, ironed clothing, sold Avon, was a longtime librarian for the Carbondale Library and tax preparer for several years.

She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Topeka, KS.  Prior to its closing she was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church, Topeka.  She was active in the church over the years as member of the church choir and the LWML group of the church.

Marjean was a very creative soul.  Her artistic side had always shown through in the many gifts she was blessed with.  She loved to sew, knit and crochet and made crocheted tree top angels for family and friends.  She made many quilts over the years for the church.  She could draw beautiful pictures and made her own Nativity that was a beautiful piece of art.  She was an amazing cook and always had cookies or pies that she would make for family and friends.  She decorated cakes for family and friends.  She was an active Girl Scout Leader and a Boy Scout Den Mother.  She loved story hour at the Library and was always excited to lead that time for the community children.  She was also a singer and was a part of the MI music group that performed at area nursing homes and several other functions.  She loved her family and dedicated her life to supporting them in whatever way she could.

Marjean is preceded in death by her parents, William and Wilda Waetzig; a grandson, Toby Bedigrew; grandson-in-law Tim Vasquez; and all six of her siblings; George, Patty, Billee, Scott, Phillip and Delores.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Parker, Carbondale, KS; son, Kelly Parker, Carbondale, KS; two daughters, Tonya Hanft and her husband, Stan, Fort Collins, Co, Laurinda Bedigrew and her husband, Jim, Carbondale, KS; five grandchildren, Amy Vasquez, Patrick Bedigrew, Matthew Hanft, Derek Bedigrew, Sarah Maes; and six great grandchildren, Sophia, Elle, Toby, Eivin, Coral, and Ginger.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Christ Lutheran Church, 3509 SW Burlingame RD, Topeka, KS with a viewing prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Carbondale Cemetery, Carbondale, KS.  The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, Overbrook, KS.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Capper Foundation, Midland Hospice, or Christ Lutheran Church sent c/o the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
