Marvin Cole, age 91, of Auburn, KS, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at Prairie Winds Senior Living, Berryton, KS. He was born on May 24, 1931 in Kilmer, KS the son of Lloyd Cole and Bessie (Woodford) Cole. Marvin grew up in the rural Meriden, KS area graduating from Meriden High School with the class of 1949.
Following gradation Marvin enlisted in the United State Air Force, proudly serving his county from 1949 to 1950 as a motor pool member earning the rank of Airman.
On July 28, 1950 Marvin was united in marriage to Marjorie Hoppe at the Auburn Presbyterian Church, Auburn, KS. They moved to Auburn shortly after that and remained there the rest of their lives. This next month would have been their seventy-second anniversary.
Marvin held many jobs over his life, car salesman, game warden, truck salesman, and Kansas Department of transportation worker to name a few, but he would tell anyone who asked that his lifelong profession was that of a small stock farmer. Marvin proudly raised hogs, chicken pigeons, mice, and was especially well known for his rabbits and his goats. He was known as grandpa Goat by his grandchildren for all the goats he had on his farm during the years.
Marvin was a registered rabbit judge and judged rabbit and numerous other small stock animals at several county fairs in the area over his lifetime. He was a member of the Topeka Pigeon Racing Club, American Rabbit Breeders Association, and Masonic Lodge #32 of Auburn, KS.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Cole, Auburn, KS; three sons, Rodney Cole and his wife, Addie, Auburn, KS, Michael Cole and his wife, Connie, Topeka, KS, Steven Cole and his wife, Susan, Girard, KS; a sister Phyllis Ledford, Birmingham, AL; a brother, Richard Cole and his wife, Cheryl, Auburn, KS; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd Cole and Bessie Cole and a sister Norma Baggett and her husband, Victor.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Auburn Presbyterian Church, Auburn, KS. Interment will follow at the Auburn Cemetery. The family will greet friends for a visitation prior to the service at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers that family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn Presbyterian Church and sent c/o the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
