Nancy Lee Peterson, 81, of Overland Park, KS died Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Delmar Gardens in Overland Park, Kansas.
She was born April 19, 1945 in Aberdeen, South Dakota the daughter of Leslie Peterson and Alma (Sollie) Peterson. She graduated from Brookings South Dakota High School with the class of 1963. She attended Kansas State University, leaving school to marry Ted Macy in 1966 and move with him as he completed his medical education. The couple divorced in the early '90s, and Nancy moved to Manhattan Kansas to finish her bachelor's degree in Political Science. She then moved to Lawrence, earning her Masters Degree in Political Science at the University of Kansas.
After graduation, Nancy moved to Taos, New Mexico. She loved the eclectic lifestyle and personality of the community, which fit her outgoing personality. Nancy was a unique individual; she enjoyed the arts of Taos and was well known in the community.
Nancy later moved back to Lawrence where she also enjoyed the lively atmosphere and made many new friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Alma Peterson.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Macy of Louisburg, KS and Mark Macy of Salina, KS; one daughter, Jennifer Macy of Billings, MT; a brother, Dwight Peterson of Corvallis, MT, and six grandchildren, Zac, Veronika, Nathan, Miles, Porter, and Maren.
