Nels Just

Nels A. Just age 79, Auburn, KS, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.  He was the first born child to Edith Fleming and Othel T. Just in Concordia, Kansas on June 29, 1941.  He attended Downs High School, later relocating to Lancaster, KS.  The majority of his life was spent in the Auburn community. 

Until its recent closing, Nels had been an active member of the Auburn United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years. 

He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation as an engineering technician in the bridge design department from 1971 until his retirement in 2006.

 On October 17, 1970 Nels married Bernadine Samuelson in Courtland, KS.  They celebrated 50 years together this past 2020. 

Nels and Bernadine raised three sons together, Allan, Jason, and Neil.  He was involved as a Boy Scout leader while they were growing up. 

Nels is preceded in death by his son, Jason on August 15, 2018.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadine Just, of Auburn, KS; two sons, Allan Just (Carol) of Topeka, KS, Neil Just (Dianna) of Desoto, TX;  2 sisters, Virginia Billings (Bill) of Lancaster, KS and Jan Thornton(Larry) of Yachats, OR; a granddaughter, Leanna Strecker (Brady) of Holton, KS; and 2 great-grandchildren, River and Clara Strecker.

Nels enjoyed gardening, woodworking, home improvement projects, and family reunions.  His greatest delight in later years was spending time with his great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday April 16, 2021 at the Auburn Community Center, Auburn, KS. A visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the Auburn Community Center.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Nels Just Memorial, a fund to be designated to the Auburn Fire Station and Community Center, and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
