Owen “LaVon” Schick, 84, of Carbondale, Kansas died Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Colmery-O'Neil Veterans' Administration Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas.
He was born October 1, 1941 in Logan, Kansas the son of Fred and Louise (Bailey) Schick.
On June 13, 1987, LaVon was united in marriage to Sherryl (Juneau) Stowe in Overbrook, Kansas. They shared 38 years of loving marriage with one another.
LaVon served his country in the United States Army between 1964 and 1966, during the Vietnam War. He then worked for various companies building roads.
LaVon loved fishing, hunting, and his beloved dog, Charlie. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage and was known for his creative solar lights. He also collected pocket knives, belt buckles, and harmonicas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Louise Schick; a daughter, Amber Olson; and his siblings, Colman Schick, Alvin Schick, and Pat Kruger.
He is survived by his wife, Sherryl Schick of the home; two stepsons, Patrick Stowe and Alan Stowe; a stepdaughter, Traci Cramer; a daughter, Bradi Schick; six siblings, Lila Hamit, Carol Dodds, Dixie Geary, Lynn Calhoon, Becky Bean, Max Schick, and Robin Schick; his special mother, Delores Becker; and 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2026 at Overbrook Bible Church, Overbrook, KS. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will occur on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Carbondale Cemetery.
