Patricia Lynn Nelson, 68, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away July 5, 2022 at Advent Health Shawnee Mission, Merriam, KS. Patricia was born September 9, 1953 in Garnett, KS, the daughter of Claron Stewart and Ina (Pugsley) Stewart. Patricia grew up in Garnett, graduating from Garnett High School with the class of 1971. She graduated from Allen County Community College, Iola, KS and Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
Patricia moved to Pomona, KS after graduating college and began her teaching career at Appanoose Elementary School where she taught for thirty-seven years until her retirement in 2012.
On August 5, 1978, Patricia was united in marriage to David Allan Nelson at the First Baptist Church, Garnett, KS. They shared forty-three years of loving marriage. The couple lived in Ottawa for one year before they purchased their farm in rural Ottawa where they have lived since.
In recent years Patty attended First Baptist Church of Ottawa, KS. She was a member of the Sunflower Piecemakers Quilt Guild, the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority, and the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Patty was a loving family-oriented person. She loved spending time with her husband and children, but she especially loved her grandchildren, who were at her house and around the farm every day. She loved to travel in the summer and she and her daughter enjoyed many fun trips over the years. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed scrapbooking, embroidery, and reading. She loved to ride around the farm with Dave, stopping to watch the beautiful sunsets. She was a continual source of encouragement and strength for her husband.
Patricia is survived by her husband, David Nelson, Ottawa, KS; daughter, Leah Marie Nelson, St. Robert, MO; son, Steve Lee Nelson and his wife, Claudine, Ottawa, KS; two sisters, Mary Adele Paylor and her husband, Marles, Yukon, OK, Clarann Kempnich and her husband, Bob, Garnett, KS; and three grandchildren, Caleb, Ethan, and Jason.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
