Patty Roberts Obituary

Patty Jean (Beach) Roberts, 91, of Baldwin City, KS passed away April 1, 2023 at the Wellsville Retirement Community with her family by her side.

Patty was born July 1, 1931 in Havensville, KS, the daughter of Elga and Gladys (Nott) Beach.

The Beach family moved to the Wellsville, KS area where Patty attended school.  At the age of 17 Patty left school to join a traveling band called “The Santa-Fe Trail Riders” where she played her accordion and sang background vocals.  After a short period of playing with the band, Patty returned to her family in the Wellsville area.  Patty was an amazing keyboard player in spite of never being able to read music.  She would often entertain family and friends that visited with beautiful music, especially her grandchildren.

Patty met and then married Bill Roberts and shared 46 years of marriage.  They lived in Paola and Wellsville before settling in Baldwin City, KS.  They later divorced.  Patty remained in Baldwin City until moving into the Wellsville Retirement Community in January of 2019.

Patty loved everyone she met and “never met a stranger”.  Patty was known for giving hugs to everyone she met and would freely tell you she loved you.  Patty’s favorite pastime was shopping at Wal-Mart and loved to buy clothes, especially shoes.  Her passion for country music drew her to attending numerous country music venues which she documented in photo albums.

Patty was known to her family and friends as a wonderful cook, Cub Scout den mother, Class mom, Girl Scout mom, and best homemade brownie maker.  Patty was the BEST mom, sister, aunt and grandma a child could ever ask for.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Delbert, Dale and Darrell; and a sister, Peggy.

She is survived by her sister, Judy (Beach) Stark, Brookfield, MO; two sons, Kenny and wife, Brenda, Ottawa, KS, Randy and wife, Brenda, Baldwin City, KS; daughter, Kathy Kuhn and husband, David, Sandy, Utah; grandchildren, Carrie Bello and husband, Kevin, Strawberry Bay Reservoir, UT, Johnnie Heider-Kuhn and husband, Nelson, Longmont, Co, Abbey Schurman, St. George, UT, Shelby Roberts, Gardner, KS, Lindsey Roberts, Colorado; eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Baldwin City, KS.  Burial will follow at Vinland Cemetery, Vinland, KS.  The family will meet with friends prior to the service on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to the service hour at the church.  The family suggests in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, Ottawa, KS sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067.  Condolences may be sent to the family through www.lamb-roberts.com.
