Paul Mohler Obituary

Paul William Mohler, 89, of Kansas City, KS passed away December 23, 2021 at the Olathe Hospice House Olathe, KS.  He was born June 6, 1932, to Allen H. Mohler and Mary Catherine (Kinsley) Mohler in Hartville, Ohio. He had one brother, Loren, and three sisters, Betty, Ann, and Sarah. At the age of seventeen, in 1949, Paul moved to Kansas where he met Devena Belle Wray. They were married March 11, 1951 and enjoyed 67 years of life together. To this union four children were born: Joyce Irene, James Wesley, Marilyn Louise, and Mark Leslie.

In the summer of 1953, realizing that salvation is only by grace through faith, and not by any works of man, but it is the gift of God, Paul received Christ as His Savior by faith.  After he realized the truth of Scripture and believed on Christ, he immediately began to sing with new assurance, “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth.”

In 1960, at age 28, he surrendered his heart to the call of God in to the ministry of preaching the Word of God.  This was under the ministry of Pastor Willard Neumann of the Centropolis Baptist Church, Centropolis, Kansas.  After two and a half years of training under Pastor Neumann and three years of Bible college, he began his ministering in His first pastorate at the newly formed Overbrook Baptist Church. He later received an honorary Doctor of Theology degree.  He pastored three other churches, serving the longest at Shawnee Mission Baptist Temple.  He served as pastor of these churches from January, 1966, to July, 1999, a total of 33 1/2 years.

In 1999, he and Devena moved to Spokane, Missouri, where they joined and served as missionaries of Faith Baptist Church, where his son, James, was the pastor.  From 1999 to 2004, he and Devena prepared and served with their son-in-law and daughter, Missionaries Richard and Joyce Crotts, in Papua New Guinea. They enjoyed a blessed and fruitful ministry and relationship with the Baptist churches in East New Britain, PNG.

Upon retirement and needing care, in March 2016, Paul and Devena moved to the home of their daughter, Marilyn, where they have resided until their respective deaths. During this time, they once again became members of Shawnee Mission Baptist Temple.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Devena, a son, Mark,  and his brother, Loren, and two sisters, Ann Flory, and Betty Smith

Paul was a much loved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather.  He is survived by three children, Joyce (Mohler) Crotts, James Mohler, and Marilyn (Mohler-Reeves) Carr; eighteen grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.

Paul’s life and ministry touched many others in two countries.  He was noted for his preaching, teaching, and example of faithfulness to the Lord and His churches.  He will be missed but will be kept close to the hearts of all who loved him.
