Pauline Yockey Obituary

Pauline Yockey, 99, of Tallahassee, Florida, previously of Ottawa, died Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at home in Tallahassee following a brief illness.  

She was born January 30, 1924, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of George Ivan (Ike) Streebin and Lela Campbell Streebin.  She graduated from Ottawa High School in the class of 1941.

On August 28, 1945, Pauline was united in marriage to Joe A. Yockey Jr. Soon after they were married, they moved to Maryland for two years before returning to Ottawa. They lived together on N. Sycamore for more than 60 years before Joe’s passing.

Pauline worked as a bookkeeper at Woolworths during World War II, and Ottawa Steel (Truck) for more than 20 years. She also served as office manager at several Ottawa automobile dealers. In retirement she worked at the Ottawa Walmart and enjoyed seeing so many friends at the store. Pauline moved to Tallahassee, Florida to live with her daughter and son-in-law in 2014.

Pauline attended the Trinity United Methodist Church for many years and enjoyed being part of the community there. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 60 years in Ottawa and Tallahassee. She was a member of the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary prior to moving to Tallahassee.

Pauline enjoyed social activities with her many friends and extended family. She enjoyed trips to the beach, painting, crosswords, and puzzles. She was a big movie buff who loved binge watching movies with Jeannie. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grand dogs. Pauline was an avid gardener, and she was an avid sports fan, especially the Kansas Jayhawks, The Kansas City Chiefs, The Kansas City Royals, and the Florida State Seminoles. She was especially a fan of the FSU Softball Team and FSU Women's Basketball Team, and KU Basketball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe A. Yockey Jr., her parents, George Ivan (Ike) Streebin and Lela Campbell Streebin, sister Virginia Streebin Robertson, brother George E. Streebin, and infant sister Ruth Esther Streebin, all of Ottawa, Kansas.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeannie Yockey-Fine and son-in-law, Michael Fine and grand dogs, Maui Bear and Pebbles, of Tallahassee, FL. She is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., July 12, 2023 at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.
