Obituary

Pierre Montez Johnson, 35, of Ottawa, KS passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023 at his home in Ottawa, KS.  He was born November 3, 1987 in Shelby, Mississippi to Renae M. Johnson who later married Aaron A. Williams.  After the passing of his mother, Renae, at the age of 11, Pierre moved to Ottawa, KS where he was raised by his Uncle, Darnell Johnson and  Melanie Herken.  Graduating from Ottawa High School in 2006, he later attended both Butler County Community College and later Fort Scott Community College, obtaining an Associates of Arts Degree. During his studies, Pierre excelled in Track & Field, where he ran the 100 and 200 meter events as a sprinter.  He later attended Ottawa University in 2014, and went on to Pinnacle Career Institute in Kansas City, MO, where he obtained his License in Massage Therapy.

Pierre was a self-employed Massage Therapist and worked at Hasty Awards, here in Ottawa.

Although he held membership at the Ottawa Elks Lodge and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce - Young Entrepreneurs, Pierre had just received his notary to run for City Commissioner, here in Ottawa as well.  Excited to take part within the community and to have the support system needed, his campaign slogan was, “A Healthier Ottawa”.

Pierre will be remembered for his positive attitude, his wittiness, his contagious smile and definitely his loving hugs. He had a heart for motivating others, and never knew a stranger.  If you didn’t know Pierre when he walked into a room, he would surely leave you with a lasting impression. He truly lived his life in high spirits, adopting his favorite motto as, “Grateful for where I am … Excited about where I am going” as well as one he adopted from a close MS cousin and childhood friend, “PLAWK23” (Pure Love All We Know).

He was preceded in death by his mother, Renae Johnson-Williams; a grandfather, James E. (Betty) Jackson; and a great-grandmother, Arthur Lee Johnson.

Survivors include his stepfather,  Aaron A. Williams of Mound Bayou, MS; one brother, Darius Johnson (Emili) of Ottawa, KS; one step-brother, Aaron Wells of Duncan, MS, and two special brothers of who he was raised with, Krystopher Johnson of Kansas City, MO, and Kobe Johnson of Ottawa, KS; one sister, Contessa Johnson of Frisco, TX and one step-sister, Porshia Williams-Jones of Rosedale, MS; maternal grandmother, Ojean Johnson of Ottawa, KS; three uncles, Darnell (Staci) Johnson and Destard Johnson, both of Ottawa, KS, and James E. Jackson Jr. of Cedar Rapids, IA; and one aunt, Janet Jackson-Robinson (Sigmund) of Cedar Rapids, IA. Pierre cherished his nieces and nephews: J’hordin Idleburg, Akari and Niyya Johnson, Kaiden LaMay and Jayda Johnson.  Other survivors include a host of great-aunts and great-uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Ottawa University Chapel, 1001 S. Cedar Street, Ottawa, KS 66067.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S.
