Ramona Johnson Obituary

Ramona Amanda Johnson,94, of Overbrook, KS died Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, KS.

She was born August 3, 1927 in Vliets, KS the daughter of Carl David Kasper and Agnes Marie (Sanderson) Kasper.  She grew up in Marshall County, KS and graduated from Vermillion High School, Vermillion, KS, with the class of 1945.

On November 22, 1950 Ramona was united in marriage to Richard C. Johnson in Topeka, KS.  They shared 32 years of marriage until the death of Richard on October 30, 1982.

Ramona loved her church family at Cross Road Community Church in Scranton.  She had attended there since 1978 and continued until she was no longer able to get out.  She was an active member of the women's group and enjoyed many friendships there.

Ramona began her professional career working at the National Fire Insurance Company, Topeka, KS, as a filer.  She later worked for most of her professional life at American Yearbook, Topeka, KS, as a typesetter.  She also worked for the Kansas Highway Patrol in the accident report division until her retirement in 1990.  Ramona was active in the Overbrook community as a member of the Cosmos club, as well as working at Brookside retirement community, at Jack's Cafe, and for several years at the local newspaper.

She was an accomplished quilter and made quilts for all thirteen of her grandchildren, as well as baby quilts for her great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed camping with her family.  Ramona was blessed to have traveled to many National Parks and to Alaska over the years on bus trips with Tudor Tours. She enjoyed traveling to Sweden, the homeland of her ancestors, with her sister, Alice. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; and four siblings, Norma Kasper, Alice Dodd, Ruth Kasper and Kermit Kasper

Ramona is survived by four children; a son, Stephen Johnson and his wife, Pamela of Topeka, KS, along with their daughter Brylee Fischer and her husband, Luke; a daughter, Debbie Friesen and her husband Stan of Overbrook, KS, along with their children, Rebekah Evans and her husband, Scott, Rachel Henry and her husband, John, Jacob Friesen and his wife, Alyssa, Peter Friesen; a son, Daniel Johnson and his wife Bev, of Topeka, KS, along with their children, Luke Johnson and his wife, Chantal, Eli Johnson, Hannah Ayala and her husband, Bryan, Lydia Johnson; a daughter, Becky Yager and her husband, Tyson, of Derby, KS, along with their children, Levi Yager, Noah Yager, Silas Yager, Charis Yager; and four great grandchildren, Bowen, Connor, Lincoln, and Uriah.

To celebrate Ramona’s life, a memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday October 9, 2021 at Cross Road Community Church, Scranton, KS. The family will meet with friends for a visitation prior to the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cross Road Community Church sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
