Rebecca "Maxine" Moore Obituary

Rebecca “Maxine” Moore, 96, of Ottawa, Kansas died Friday, January 15, 2021 at Morningstar Care Home in Ottawa, Kansas.

She was born November 28, 1924 near Rantoul, Kansas the daughter of Ernest and Gladys (O’Neal) Finch. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1942.  

After graduating from high school Maxine worked at Ransom Memorial Hospital for 10 years. She started working in the kitchen while also attending business school. Upon completing her course work she was promoted to the business office. She then worked at Ottawa Savings & Loan (later Franklin Savings) as an accounting clerk.

Maxine’s greatest joy was her marriage to James Paul Moore on February 15, 1958 and raising their two sons, Jon and Ned. Maxine and Paul enjoyed 28 years of marriage until his death on March 17, 1986.  

As her boys grew older, she returned to Franklin Savings in the mid 70’s, working there until her retirement in 1990.   

Maxine was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and First Christian Church of Ottawa for over 65 years. She was active in the church and held many positions. Most notably were treasurer of the Disciples Women’s Fellowship, secretary of the Administrative Support Team and as the interim secretary for the church.

After raising two boys she was blessed with three granddaughters. She was an active part of their lives and as they grew older she especially enjoyed attending their softball games as their biggest fan.

In addition to spending time with her family Maxine remained active playing bridge, baking, bowling and spending time at the family farm fishing and enjoying nature.

Her family, friends and her faith were the cornerstones of her life. She always had a smile on her face and a genuine interest in others. She will be missed.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Bill Finch.

She is survived by her two sons, Jon (Kylee) of Baldwin City, KS and Ned (Tammy) of Ottawa, KS; three granddaughters, Ashlee (A.J.) Eisma of Olathe, KS, Kelsey Moore of Overland Park, KS, and Taylor (Jack) Stout of Topeka, KS; a sister Mary Smith of Webb City, MO, and many nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held on Wednesday, January 20th, 2021 at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, KS.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
