Reece Laurie, 49, of Ottawa, KS died Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Shawnee Mission AdventHealth in Overland Park, Kansas.
He was born September 29, 1972 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Ramon Laurie and Judith (Sanders) Laurie. He grew up in Russell, KS, graduating from Russell High School with the class of 1991. He then went on to attend Kansas State University, were he was a member of the Beta Sigma Psi fraternity and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems in 1996.
While at KSU, he met his future wife, Erin. On February 14, 1998, Reece was united in marriage to Erin Flock at Central Christian Church in Madison, Kansas. They shared twenty-four years of loving marriage.
Reece worked at Kalmar, Ottawa, KS for the past three and a half years as a computer software engineer. He previously worked as a computer software technician for Rhythm Engineering, IBM, and Informix.
He was the former Chief, Captain, and a proud member of the Fire Board of the Lincoln-Ohio-Harrison (LOH) Fire District. He was a member of Grace Community Fellowship Church in Ottawa, KS with his family. Reece enjoyed fishing, even though he rarely found time to get out on the water. He also spent time enjoying shooting sports, and hunting. Reece spent most of his time working on his small farm and doing activities with his family. He truly loved being on the land and keeping his farm up and running. Reece will lovingly be remembered for his kindness, gentleness, love for family and community, and his ability to very thoughtfully problem solve.
Reece was preceded in death by his father, Ramon Laurie.
He is survived by his wife, Erin Laurie of Ottawa, KS; two sons, Wayne Laurie and his wife, Emily, of Ottawa, KS, and Ryan Laurie of Ottawa, KS; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Laurie of Ottawa, KS, and one grandson, Miles Laurie, of Ottawa, KS; a sister, Angela Laurie-Wyan and her husband, Don, of Salina, KS; two brothers, Doug Montalvo and his wife, Penny, of Troy, TX, and Peter Laurie and his wife, Stacy, of Russell, KS; his mother, Judy Laurie of Russell, KS; and a grandmother, Hazel Laurie of Coffeyville, KS.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, Ottawa, KS. To celebrate Reece’s life, a visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2022 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S Hickory St, Ottawa, KS 66067.
