Rella Ann Morgan, 79, of Scranton, KS passed away Monday, September 2, 2024 at the University of Kansas St. Francis Campus in Topeka, KS. She was born March 15, 1945 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Gustaf Edwin Segelquist and Mayme Elizabeth (Elmore) Segelquist. She graduated from Scranton High School then attended Emporia Teachers College.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Morgan on February 14, 1965 in Scranton, KS. They shared over fifty-nine years of marriage before the death of her husband on June 25, 2024.
Rella worked for the Santa Fe Trail School District for over thirty five years. She worked many different jobs during her time, lunchroom/recess aide, custodian, nurse and could always be counted on to keep score at a volleyball or basketball game. She was an active member of the Scranton United Methodist Church for much of her life. Rella was a member of the Scranton Lions Club and Treasurer for the Scranton Fire Department. She was an Emergency Medical Technician for over two decades. She loved people, especially the school kids. She was known to always have an extra pair of socks, mittens or whatever the kids might need. She loved shopping and spending time with her family. She especially loved decorating for Christmas and would leave the decorations up as long as she could. She enjoyed hosting family events and could be counted on for a good weiner roast and homemade rolls. Rella was always on the go regardless of good or bad weather. Rella enjoyed going to other communities to play dominoes and bunko. She enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower garden, watching the birds, butterflies and any stray critters from her kitchen window. She loved her cats Max and Missy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mayme Segelquist; a brother, William Segelquist; and her husband, Kenneth L. Morgan.
Surviving family includes two daughters, Kristina Overman of Hoyt, KS and Kristal Morgan of Scranton, KS; a sister, Helen Glass and husband, Jim of Florida; a brother, Harold Segelquist and wife, Terry of Scranton, KS; two granddaughters, Morgan and Marlow Overman; and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Cross Road Community Church, 512 Mason Street, Scranton, KS 66537. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Scranton Cemetery.
