Retta Bryan Obituary

Retta Mae Bryan, 86, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away on August 31, 2014, at Village West, Ottawa, KS. Retta was born in Franklin County, KS on April 2, 1928 to Albert Olin and Flora J. (Ward) Finch. Retta was a lifelong Franklin County resident graduating from Wellsville High School with the class of 1947. She worked for the COF Training Center as a supervisor for 20 years. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family as well as making custom clothing and drapes for many Ottawa residents. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Zigzag Sewing Club, Faith Circle, Helping Hand Sunday School Class and The Tops Club. Retta was also active for many years in the Town and Country 4-H club as the sewing leader. She enjoyed many trips to Alaska to visit family and traveled extensively throughout the state. During her last year, her favorite pastime at Village West was playing bingo. She loved kids, dogs, butterflies, and most importantly her faith and her family. Retta was united in marriage to William Lewis Bryan on December 2, 1951 in Peoria, KS. They shared 32 years together before he preceded her in death on December 21, 1983 Retta is also preceded in death by her parents Surviving family includes; two daughters, Lynn Carpenter of Manitou Springs, CO, Joy Bryan - Dolsby of Ottawa, KS and one son Ed Bryan of Ottawa, KS; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mrs. Bryan will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday September 6, 2014 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.
