Richard “Dick” Alan Hutchens, 79, passed away peacefully at home in Sunrise Beach, Missouri on Saturday, March 6, 2021.
Dick was born October 1, 1941 in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Ruth (Breithaupt) Hutchens. He graduated from Topeka High School with the class of 1959. After two years of continuing his education at Washburn University, Dick served his country in the United States Navy, during which time he was stationed at Whidbey Island, Washington.
He worked for Fleming Foods, Inc. for thirty-three years in Topeka and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Through hard work and dedication, Dick advanced through the company to the title of Director of Produce Operations.
On November 30, 1973, Dick was united in marriage to Connie Leavell in Topeka, KS. They shared over 47 years of loving marriage. She survives of the home.
He is also survived by a son, Grant Hutchens and his wife, Pam, Shawnee, KS; a grandson, Jace Hutchens, and two granddaughters, Mia and Finley Hutchens, all of Shawnee, KS; and a sister, Jan Bartlett and her husband, Myron, Topeka, KS and Sunrise Beach, MO.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Duane Hutchens.
He loved KU basketball and was a season ticket holder. He also loved to travel with family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2021 at Worden Cornerstone Church, 294 E. 900th Rd, Baldwin City, KS 66006. Inurnment at Worden Cemetery will be at a later date.
