Roberta Peterson Obituary

Roberta M. Peterson, age 77, of Emporia, KS, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022. She was born on January 23, 1945 in Pascagoula, MS to Fred D. Coffman and Ida Mae (Star) Coffman. Roberta grew up in rural Osage County, Kansas and graduated from Osage City High School with the class of 1963. She then attended Emporia State University for two years and later Brown-Mackie Business School in Topeka, KS.

Roberta worked for the Kansas State Engineers Office as an assistant and then the Topeka Housing Authority as a consumer credit counselor for many years until she started her own business Prairie Stitches Craft Shop in Emporia, KS.  She would eventually also work at the Office of East Central Kansas Mental Health while running her own business.

On January 23, 1988 Roberta was united in marriage to Raymond Peterson at the United Methodist Church in Miller, KS.  They shared thirty-four years of loving marriage.

Roberta was a very active member of the Sweet Adeline’s singing group of Emporia in her younger years.  She was also an active parent in several Lyon County 4-H groups including former president of the Riverside 4-H club.  She was also a member of the United Methodist Church, Miller, KS.

She was a skilled artist.  She painted, did beading and needlepoint and cross-stitching.  She was a veracious reader and loved putting puzzles together.  Her father taught her solitaire and she played the card game for many hours.  Roberta was a jack of all trades but a master of none.  She was always staying active.  She did not like to be idle.  Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved to spend time with them.

Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, Fred D. and Ida Mae Coffman; a son Todd R. Snethen; and a sister, Eva Sue Barnett.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Peterson, Emporia, KS; daughter, Pennie Garcia, Emporia, KS; son, Brandon Lindburg, Americus, KS; three siblings, David Coffman, Osage City, KS, Judy Jellioson, Topeka, KS, Kaye Boyce, Lawrence, KS; two step sons, Brian Peterson, New Brockton, AL, Doug Peterson, Inman, KS; twelve grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
