Roland D. Rickel

Roland Dale Rickel, 95, of Burlingame, Kansas died Saturday, October 5, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born June 30, 1929 in Hoyt, Kansas the son of Dennis and Harriet (Woodhead) Rickel.  He graduated from Hoyt High School with the class of 1947. 

In 1952, Roland was united in marriage to Betty Ann Vandevord in Burlingame, Kansas.  They enjoyed 58 years of loving marriage until Betty’s passing in 2010.

Roland moved to Burlingame in 1952 and began farming, which he dearly loved.  He also worked as a concrete finisher and, along with some friends, formed ROKK Concrete. 

Roland loved taking trips to the lake with his camper and boat, especially with a few grandkids in tow when they were young.  He also enjoyed going to casinos, and would travel to the casinos in Blackhawk, CO, Miami, OK, and Cripple Creek, CO.  Most of all, Roland loved his family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Harriet Rickel; his wife, Betty Ann Rickel; and eleven siblings.

He is survived by a son, Doug Rickel and his wife, Susy, of Burlingame, KS; a daughter, Sue Ann Ryan and her husband, Dennis, of Leavenworth, KS; four grandchildren, Roy Rickel and his wife, Michelle, of Burlingame, KS, Fallan Pyeatt and her husband, Talon, of Burlingame, KS, Sean Ryan of Overland Park, KS, and Logan Ryan and his wife, Kelly, of Leavenworth, KS; six great-grandchildren, Rylie, Hayli, Braden, Dawson, Cole, and Collin; a great-great-grandson, Jaxsun Rendel; and a brother, Charles Rickel of Mayetta, KS.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Federated Church of Burlingame, Burlingame, KS.  Interment will follow at Burlingame Cemetery.  To celebrate Roland’s life, a visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 503 S.
