Samuel O. Woltje, Jr., age 79 of Baldwin City, KS, formerly of Dodge City, KS, passed away February 18, 2020 at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab. Sam was born January 2, 1941 in Meade, KS the son of Samuel O. and Verna (Trefethen) Woltje. He grew up in Plains, KS. Sam's parents divorced when he was a child. Sam's mother remarried to William (Bill) Adams. Before Sam entered his junior year of high school, the family moved to Los Angeles, CA. Sam attended Hollywood High and was always proud that he attended classes with singers David and Ricky Nelson. Sam served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp from 1961 to 1964 earning the rank of Corporal. He attained the Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Marksman Badge. Sam was proud to be a Marine, as well as being very proud to have served his country. Sam's step dad Bill Adams adopted Sam on July 29, 1976. Sam chose to keep his name since he had already served in the United Sates Marines and had a family of his own. Sam Married Toni Dobbins in Memphis, TN. They had two children. Their marriage ended in divorce. On April 15, 1989, Sam was united in marriage to Carolyn in Cimarron, KS. Carolyn survives of the home. Also surviving are his; son, Larry Woltje and his wife, Heather, Topeka, KS; daughters, Laura Bone and her husband, Joel, Dodge City, KS, Andrea Bernard and her husband, Shay, Overland Park, KS; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Sam worked as a manager for Interstate Electronics in Liberal, KS and was transferred to the Dodge City store. After the company closed, he became a salesperson for Hawleywood Brothers R.V. as a salesperson for several years. In 1993, Sam purchased the home improvement center, Doors N More, operating the business until 2003, when he sold the company. Sam then became a bus driver for the Dodge City School System until 2007 when he moved to Baldwin City. Sam transferred to the Baldwin City School System and drove a School Bus until 2010. Sam also drove the transportation bus for Baldwin Care Center from 2011 to 2014 and the retired. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, Baldwin City, KS. He loved K.U. basketball and Football. He also loved to support his children and grandchildren in all their sports activities. Sam is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Woltje, William Adams, Jr., Donald Adams; sister, Blanche (Woltje) Todroff. Sam was the oldest child and outlived all his siblings. Sam was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 700 Chapel St., Baldwin City, KS. Interment will occur at 1:30 p.m. Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. The family will receive friend for a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2020 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City, KS.
