Sarah Wilson

Sarah Cain Wilson, 84, passed away on March 22, 2026.  

Sarah was born on March 7, 1942, in Hays, Kansas.  She was the fourth of six children and grew up in Western Kansas where she developed the strong values, warmth, and quiet determination that would guide her throughout her life.

A bright and dedicated student, Sarah graduated from Hays High School in 1960 and went on to attend Fort Hays State University. In 1964, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Home Economics, laying the foundation for a life devoted to education, family, and community.

In 1965, she married Lawrence Wilson of Natomas, Kansas.  Together, they built a life raising their two sons, Thomas Wilson and Paul Wilson, in Baldwin City.

Sarah was a deeply respected and active member of the Baldwin City community. She gave generously of her time and talents, serving as a substitute teacher, a member of the Baldwin City School Board, and a dedicated participant in the Arts Council.  She also faithfully served in the US Postal Service for 25 years.  Sarah served as the Baldwin City Postmaster for over a decade, where her kindness and familiar presence touched countless lives until her retirement in 2004.

Above all else, Sarah was a loving mother and grandmother. She poured her heart into raising her sons, offering unwavering love, guidance, and encouragement. Her greatest joy came later in life with the births of her cherished grandchildren, Reid and Reagan, who brought her immeasurable happiness.

Sarah had a creative spirit and a gift for making beauty with her hands. She spent countless hours selecting vibrant fabrics and sewing intricately designed quilts, each one a reflection of her love, patience, and artistry. These quilts will remain treasured keepsakes for generations to come.

In addition, Sarah was a talented baker and found great joy in sharing her creations with family, friends, and neighbors. Her kitchen was often filled with the warm aroma of freshly baked bread, pies, and cookies that have become lasting memories for those she loved. Her grandchildren will always treasure their visits with her, making chicken fried steak and homemade cinnamon rolls.

Sarah will be remembered for her artistic talent, humor, and the deep love she had for her family and community.

Sarah is survived by her son, Thomas Wilson, his wife Kristina and their two children - Reid and Reagan; and her youngest son, Paul Wilson.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Wilson in 1988.
