Sharole Prahl Obituary

Sharole Jonene Prahl, 71, of Baldwin City, KS returned home to her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 9, 2021.

She was born January 23, 1950, in Goessel, KS, the daughter of Ervin Dyck and Olga (Schmidt) Dyck.  She grew up in Goessel and graduated from Goessel High School with the class of 1968.  Four years later, Sharole graduated from Bethel College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.

Her career as a teacher began with her education in Kansas but eventually led her to teaching for the United States Department of Defense Schools in Germany while living there with her husband in the military.

On July 3, 1973 Sharole was united in marriage to Michel Prahl at the Logan Temple in Logan, Utah.  They shared forty-eight years of loving devotion.

After Michel retired from the military, Sharole and her family settled in Baldwin City, KS in 1992.  She quickly became an active member of the community, participating in many historical groups in and around Baldwin City, including those for the Santa Fe Trail and the Battle of Blackjack.  She spent many years actively involved in the Maple Leaf Festival committee, was the Maple Leaf Committee Chairman for two years, and was a Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce representative during that time.  She was also the office clerk for A&H Heating and Cooling until her retirement in 2018.

Sharole was equally involved in her beloved church.  She was a member of the Lawrence Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and later joined the congregation of the Ottawa Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  For a time, she served as the Relief Society President for the Wakarusa Valley Ward of southern Lawrence, and her pride and joy was being the chorister for the children’s Sunday school at church in Ottawa.

Sharole dedicated her life to children.  Whether it be her children, her grandchildren, the children at church, her students, or the children of the community, she was always there to help build, encourage and be part of the village that brought them along to a bright future as adults.  Over and over in her life, the love she manifest to the youth shone through.  She even recently was a favorite pen pal to her young grandchildren, teaching them the forgotten joy of a simple letter in the mail and a kind hand-written message.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Olga Dyck.

She is survived by her husband, Michel Prahl, Baldwin City, KS; three children, Dayvid Prahl and his wife, Michelle, Tullahoma, TN, Kirstina Prahl, Lawrence, KS, Ellyn Ellgen and her husband, Justin, Richland, WA; two siblings, Galen Dyck and his wife, Paula, Newton, KS, Kris Fetty and her husband, Jim, Scott City, KS; a half-sister, Phyllis Nickel, Goessel, KS; and six grandchildren, Nora, Elayne, Jonathyn, Lars, Jaycob, and Autumn.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Ottawa Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1212 Willow Lane, Ottawa, KS.  Interment will follow at Prairie City Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS.
