Sharon E. Hook

Sharon E. “Lanie” Hook, 82, of Auburn, KS died Monday, October 18, 2021 at Legends Assisted Living, Topeka, KS.

She was born March 17, 1939 in Denver, CO the daughter of Glen Brooks and Velma Grace (Vietje) Brooks.  Lanie grew up in Junction City, KS graduating from Junction City High School with the class of 1956.  She graduated from beauty school later in life.

Lanie worked for several years in Topeka for the Alcohol, Drug, and Tobacco Department of Kansas as a service aide.  In 1985 she opened and operated Auburn Beauty Saloon until her retirement in 2011.

She was a full time Auburn community volunteer all of her years that she lived in Auburn.  She was always at the library helping or helping the tax department or anything the city needed.  She was a member of the Auburn Presbyterian Church and was often volunteer there as a Sunday school teacher or Vacation Bible School teacher.  She enjoyed many Bus Trips, especially to Branson over the years.  She had a great group of friends that ate together 2 to 3 times a week, an event she was always looking forward to.

On May 11, 1985, Lanie was united in marriage to Charles Hook at Auburn, KS. Charles preceded her in death.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Gregory West.

Lanie is survived by three sons, David W. West, Tulsa, OK, Michael A. West, Bixby, OK, Douglas R. West, Antlers, OK; sister, Margie Gartall, Minnesota; a brother, Wallace Brook, North Carolina; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren..

Memorial funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2021 at Auburn Community Center, Auburn, KS.  Interment will follow at Auburn Cemetery.   Family will meet with friends for a visitation prior to the services from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Auburn Community Center.  Memorial contributions may be made to Auburn Community Center sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
