Sue Ann Kleist Obituary

Sue Ann Kleist, 78, of Baldwin City, KS passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, KS. 

She was born February 21, 1944 in Russell, KS the daughter of Raymond and Doris (Stuteville) Scanlon. She graduated from Cawker City High School in 1962.  She later attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS. 

She married John L. Miller Sr. on November 3, 1963.  They shared over twenty-two years of marriage before his passing on May 8, 1986.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Kleist on February 14, 1988 at the Lenexa United Methodist Church, Lenexa, KS.  They shared over thirty-four years of marriage.

Sue Ann was a Clerk at Oak Park State Bank, then a Clerk for the City of Overland Park and last a Finance Clerk at Waddell & Reed.  

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City, KS; Order of Eastern Star, Evangeline Baldwin City, KS where she was a Past Matron. Sue Ann was a past Grand Organist for the Grand Chapter of Kansas. She loved music, enjoyed quilting and traveling by train.  She was very crafty, making hand-made gifts and center pieces for Eastern Star and Masonic emblems for Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge.  

Mrs. Kleist was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronald Stuteville and step-father, Roy Stuteville.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Kleist of Baldwin City, KS; a daughter, Jeanne Sims and husband, Jeff of Kansas City, KS; a step-daughter, Susan Ruth Baska of Holton, KS; three step-sons, John Michael Kleist of Kansas City, KS, John L. Miller Jr. of Gravois Mills, MO and Freddie Miller and wife, Keri of Palm Bay, FL; four grandsons, Matthew Kelly and wife, Meckenzie of Paola, KS, Kyle Kelly and wife, Elizabeth of Olathe, KS, Jonathan Kelly of Eugene, OR and Ryan Kelly of Tucson, AZ; a step-granddaughter, Heather Dalton; a step-grandson, Dalton; and five great-grandchildren, Preslei, Ashleigh, Oakley, Kennedy and Peighton.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, 704 Eighth Street, Baldwin City, KS 66006.  Memorial contributions to Eastern Star of Baldwin City, KS or American Parkinson Disease Association and sent to Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
