Thelma Mae Honeycutt

Thelma Mae Honeycutt was born on August 26, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Lloyd Ashley and Beatrice Janet (Rarden) Connaway. Thelma grew up in the Kansas City area. On June 30, 1945 Thelma married her high school sweetheart, Robert Jack Honeycutt, in Bonner Springs, KS. The couple resided in Kansas City until 1952 when they moved to Ottawa, KS. In 1958, they moved to Yokahama, Japan with their two children. Returning to the states in 1960, the family made their home in Pensacola, FL, Corpus Christie, TX, San Antonio, TX, Dunville, Newfoundland, Warwick, RI, Gardner, KS, Topeka, KS, finally settling in Ottawa, KS in 1983. Thelma graduated from Central High School, Kansas City, MO, in 1943. She was a homemaker and worked part time as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1982. Thelma was an avid volunteer in the Ottawa community, working with Hope House for many years. Gardening was Thelma's favorite hobby, serving as a member of the Horticulture Study Club and The Four Seasons Club in Ottawa. She was quite the artist and craftswoman-she loved sewing, painting, crocheting, and cooking and baking with her grandchildren. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Honeycutt; parents; two brothers, Robert Stanley Connaway and Joe Ashley Connaway; four sisters, Mildred Bell Virginia Connaway, Beatrice Arlene Ewbank, Alice Bettie Pratt, and Nancy Lee Hull. Thelma is survived by her two children, Daniel Robert Honeycutt and his wife, Suzie Honeycutt (Smithville, MO) and Mary Jo Hildebrandt (Ottawa, KS); grandchildren Christi Kunetka (McHenry, IL), Shari Baldwin (Richmond, IL), Jason Honeycutt (IA), Cari Halliburton (Ottawa, KS), Shondi Larios (Ottawa, KS), Brandy Nichols and wife Jessica Nichols (Ottawa, KS), and Mekaela Kramer and husband Joe Kramer (Overland Park, KS), Eric Honeycutt (Maryville, MO) and Daniel Honeycutt Jr. (Smithville, MO); great grandchildren Skyler Kunetka, Michael and Ashley Baldwin, Kaitlin Schulz, Dalton and Jaid Larios, Scout, Wade, and Amelia Nichols, and Bennett Kramer; great-great granddaughter Marley Green; many nieces and nephews; and first cousin, Glenn Montgomery. Thelma was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones, but we will cherish our memories of her for a lifetime. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2013, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Honeycutt will lie in state at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to the visitation hour, Thursday. The family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
