Tom Meinen passed away on February 12, 2023, in Baldwin City, KS. He was born in Pekin, IL, in 1950.
He is survived by his wife, Ginny Meinen; four children Lisa Meinen Doerksen (Jake), Heidi Wagner (Jeremy), Andy Meinen (Megan), and Ellie Meinen; and six grandchildren Kaleb, Taylor, Connor, Anya, Isaac, and Fiona. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Bette Meinen, and his brother, Gary.
Growing up in Pekin, Tom spent time with friends and working construction with his father. One of those friendships led him to meeting Ginny. Their friendship grew and they married in 1975 in Springfield, IL. Starting their family in Pekin, IL, Tom worked at Caterpillar where he made lifelong friends. Tom moved the family to Moline, IL, where he was a project manager. He continued making deep friendships while installing elevators on launch sites at Cape Canaveral. The family relocated to Baldwin City, KS, in the early 1990s. His involvement with the golf club, Knights of Columbus and the wider community grew friendships for nearly 30 years. Whether selling fireworks with the Knights, manning the grill at Annunciation’s booth at Maple Leaf or hitting the links at men’s night, Tom’s booming laughter could always be heard.
While Tom was a fan of the Jayhawks and Chiefs, rarely missing a game, what brought him a tremendous amount of joy and pride were his children and grandchildren. His assumption was each of them was the best at whatever they attempted - sports, languages, schools and careers. He would often remind them that life was meant to be lived, to enjoy good times, and to be themselves.
Visitation is at Annunciation, Thursday, February 16 from 6 - 7:30pm, with a Rosary at 6pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 17 at 2pm at Annunciation Catholic Church, Baldwin City, KS. Following the service, a luncheon will be served in St. Anne’s Hall. Memorial contributions can be made to the Knights of Columbus and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.lamb-roberts.com.
