Twila Mae (Hoy) Athon of Overbrook, Kansas passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Brookside Health and Rehab in Overbrook, Kansas.
Twila was born on February 10, 1947 in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of Lloyd O. and Jessie L. (Smith) Hoy. Twila spent her early childhood in Scranton, Kansas and attended Burlingame Grade School. She later moved to Overbrook, where she graduated from Overbrook Rural High School in 1965. After graduating high school, she attended Clark Business School in Topeka, Kansas.
Twila was united in marriage to Thomas Athon on March 16, 1968 at the United Methodist Church in Overbrook, Kansas. They celebrated over 57 years of loving marriage together.
Twila worked for the State of Kansas before moving to California, where her husband, Tom, was in the Navy. She later moved to Pennsylvania before moving back to Kansas. She worked for the National Reserve Life Insurance. She later worked for Overbrook schools as the secretary before moving to the superintendent’s office, where she retired after working in the school district for over 25 years.
Twila was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing fastpitch and slowpitch softball, volleyball, and spending time with loved ones, especially her grandchildren who she treasured. She was also a proud member of Grace Community Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Jessie Hoy; a son, Dean Athon; a daughter, Katie Athon-Reiter; and a brother, David Hoy.
Twila is survived by her husband, Tom Athon of the home; her daughter, Amy Moore and her husband, Shannon, of Overbrook, KS; six grandchildren, Branson Reiter, Kayla Frost and her husband, Richard, Maelynn Vecera and her husband, JT, Caelyss Henderson and her husband, Cameron, Gemma Moore, and Brenae Moore; three great-grandchildren, Katie Frost, Paisley Frost, and Jet Vecera; her brother, Lloyd Hoy, Jr.; and two sisters, Norma Cannon and Cheryl Florance.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Grace Community Church, 310 East 8th St, Overbrook, KS 66524. To celebrate Twila’s life, a visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 730 Western Heights Dr, Overbrook, KS 66524.
