She was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Clearwater, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Barnett and Monnie (Mackey) Barnett. She graduated from Clearwater High School in 1957. Throughout her life, Twila lived in Wichita, Gardner, Wellsville, and Carbondale for 20 years before moving to Ottawa in 2011.

Twila was united in marriage to Donald Parkhurst on Oct. 25, 1991, in Miami, Oklahoma. They shared many years of loving marriage before Donald’s passing.

She was a homemaker, banker, insurance agent, and worked side-by-side with the love of her life, Don, building sheds and decks. She attended Grace Community Fellowship in Ottawa, Kansas, and was a member of the Ransom/Advent Health of Ottawa Auxiliary for many years. She had a wonderful group of lady friends. They would go to dinner every Tuesday and took several trips to Branson for live productions and concerts.

In her spare time, Twila enjoyed quilting and watching the Kansas City Chiefs and was an avid KU Jayhawks fan. She was a member of the Wheathearts square dance group and danced with many other groups over the years. She met Don at a square dance. She also had a cat, Suzy, who she loved dearly. Twila and Don were “snowbirds” and loved to travel. The day after Christmas they would head to Big Valley in Donna, Texas, and she would be back in Kansas by March Madness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Monnie Barnett; her husband, Donald Parkhurst; a brother, Aaron (Danny) Barnett; a sister, Charlene Riggle; and a daughter, Debra Pulis.

Twila is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Doug) Sims and their children, Alexander (Tyler) Curbow, Laura and Nathaniel; two step-daughters, Sheila (Ed) Sedam and their children, Erik (Elizabeth) and their two children, Eddie (Shiela) and their three children, Heather and her child; and Janella Parkhurst and her child, Lanea Lane and her two children; a step-son, Wayne (Diana) Parkhurst and their children, Jason Ballew (Karmel), Donald Wayne Parkhurst Jr (Rhonda), Donald Hinton, Sherie Hinton (Lucas Sleep), Jeannie Hinton, Lesley Parkhurst; and a sister, Judy Watson.
