Virginia Lee Davis, 81, of Wichita, KS formerly of Burlingame, KS, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Regent Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Wichita, KS. She was born December 19, 1940 at home in Burlingame, KS, the daughter of H. George Wight and Dorothy E. (McFarlane) Wight.
Virginia grew up in Burlingame; she started school at Superior District No. 2 located two miles south of Burlingame. The school was a one room school that included first through eighth grade. She attended the Superior District No. 2 from first to third grade. She then moved to the Burlingame public schools and graduated from Burlingame High School with the class of 1959.
Virginia started her career in the banking industry in Topeka at Capitol City Bank owned by Georgia Nesse Clark Gray, the first woman Treasurer of the United States. She moved to Wichita in 1982 and worked for the First National Bank later the name was changed to Intrust Bank. Virginia retired from Intrust Bank after 25 years on September 7, 2007. She lived in Wichita until her death.
On February 24, 1989, Virginia was united in marriage to Orville Earl Davis at the Sedgwick County Court House in Wichita, KS. Orville preceded her in death in 2001.
Some of Virginia’s hobbies include drawing, water color paintings, and photography. She loved the different aspects of nature from flowers, rainbows, birds, and snow. Her career in banking lead her to making money origami shirts as gifts.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, H. George Wight and Dorothy (McFarlane) Wight; her maternal grandparents, Andrew McFarlane and Frances (Kelley) McFarlane Lackey; paternal grandparents, Durant Wight and Osea (Rice) Wight, niece, Karen Kahler; two great nieces, Emily and Lauren Kahler; and a nephew by marriage, Tim Denton.
She is survived by her brother Robert D. Wight, Wichita, KS, sister, Patricia M. Hetrick, Hollister, MO; three nieces, Carmen L Esch (Mike), Neosho Rapids, KS, Nancy A. Stuchlik (Joe), Wichita, KS, Lynn A. Denton, Derby, KS; and a nephew, William Hetrick (Donna), Olathe, KS; 9 great nieces and nephew and 1 great-great nephew.
The casket will be open for viewing prior to the service at 9:30 am on Friday, October 21, 2022, at the Federated Church located at 322 S Topeka Avenue in Burlingame, Kansas, where the family will receive friends. The funeral services will start at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Burlingame Cemetery.
